The Only Country Ever To Go To The Poorhouse In An Automobile
American humorist Will Rogers once said, “The United States is the only country ever to go to the poorhouse in an automobile.” That was in 1930, if Will was around today I’m sure he would be quite amazed. Yes, 1930, a year into the Great Depression.
Even in a country that is in the ‘worst economy in 40 years’ as proclaimed by Bill Clinton and later by Barrack Obama, we still have the highest standards of living of any industrialized country. Most homes have not one but several automobiles parked outside, my house has three, None are new, none are fancy, but three nonetheless.
The point I am getting at here is that even in our bad times we enjoy a great standard of living and we have nice things that we consider necessities. We have things that we will continue to pay for month after month, year after year. For example for a few years I did not have cable television, but I did have high speed internet. Most Americans will not give up their television. And it seems that everyone with a pulse over the age of 15 has a wireless phone. See the point? People can afford what they wish to afford.
Now, what if you can place yourself in a business model where you can be paid each time someone pays their cellphone bill, their internet bill or television bill? Each month a portion of their bill comes to you, month after month, year after year. Do you form your own cellphone carrier to get in on that? Not likely. Do you set up your own cable or satellite company to provide programming? Not likely. Do you purchase an internet backbone connection and sub-sell internet access to your neighbors? Not very likely either. All these markets are already cornered by some of the biggest names in industry and the barrier to entry is extremely high.
But there is a way that you can position yourself as a middle-man between loyal customers and industry. There is a way that you can put yourself in a residual money making position with these giants.
