American humorist Will Rogers once said, “The United States is the only country ever to go to the poorhouse in an automobile.” That was in 1930, if Will was around today I'm sure he would be quite amazed. Yes, 1930, a year into the Great Depression.

Even in a country that is in the 'worst economy in 40 years' as proclaimed by Bill Clinton and later by Barrack Obama, we still have the highest standards of living of any industrialized country. Most homes have not one but several automobiles parked outside, my house has three, None are new, none are fancy, but three nonetheless.

Maybe it's something like, 'I wish I had a dollar for every time I carried out the trash'. What you have just described is a transactional income business model. You agree to perform a specified task for a specified amount of money.

There is a huge scam going on in the U.S. and around the world. Basically it goes like this, you spend 40 years of your life working for someone so that they can make a lot of money. After 40 years you get a $40 gold watch. Then you get to spend the rest of your life living on 40% or less of what you made in the previous 40 years.

The next day when I went outside a robin took flight from under the edge of the roof. Momma Bird, as I've been calling her, has been keeping her vigilance on the nest for the two weeks since I first noticed it.

Prior to Christ's coming the world was in hopeless darkness. From the Garden of Eden when mankind fell from the paradise that God had intended for the world, until Christ's resurrection was a dark time spiritually. God made a way for humans to be reconciled to himself by the offering of sacrifices, lambs and bulls slaughtered and offered as burnt sacrifices on altars. But those sacrifices had to be made over and over again. What we needed was a Savior.

Several months ago Microsoft ran a special for about a week where early adopters of Windows 7 could purchase the upgrade disks for half-price. I jumped on it and ordered Windows 7 Professional and an additional two Gigs of RAM. The RAM was shipped out immediately and the upgrade disk arrived the day of the official release.

So how has Microsoft's latest offering fared... Well pretty well actually.

A few years ago our pastor during a sermon made the distinction between what is a Gift and what is a Present. Often we use the terms interchangeably, but they are much different.

A present is something we ask for, something we want. Those that are old enough to remember the Sears catalog and Wish Book probably remember looking through it as Christmas approached and taking it to show to your parents, or writing a letter to Santa with items by page number on your wish list. Yes, these are presents, things we wish for and desire.
